Mountain Home, Arkansas is a city in Baxter County in the Ozarks region of southwest Arkansas. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 23,570 at the 2010 census.

The city is located on Crowley’s Ridge, a narrow east-west ridge that emerges from the broad alluvial plain of the Mississippi River between two lowlands drained by major tributaries of that river: the White River (a major tributary of the Mississippi) to the north and west, and Cossatot Creek to the south and east.

Mountain Home was settled in 1819 as Mount Pleasant after being surveyed by Captain David Roane and his friend John Hoback, who were searching for a route from Tennessee to Santa Fe. At that time it was part of Ouachita County in Arkansas Territory. The name Mount Pleasant was changed to Mountain Home when Baxter County was formed from portions of Crawford County in 1873 (the county seat has remained at Mountain Home since then).

The town grew slowly until 1883 when it became an important railroad center as part of an extension from Harrison (now Booneville) through Mountain.
