Revere is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 39,528 at the 2010 census. It is named after the American Revolutionary War patriot Paul Revere. It is located on Boston’s North Shore and shares a border with Chelsea to the south, Winthrop to the east, Saugus to the north, and Lynn to the west. Revere Beach is a well-known recreational area located in the town.

The city’s official nickname is “The World’s Greatest Playground”. It was named after Paul Revere, who rode through the town to warn American colonists of the approaching British army during the American Revolutionary War.

The area that would become Revere was first settled by Europeans in 1624 as part of Charlestown. The community became known as Rumney Marsh by 1632 due to its proximity to a large tidal marsh and its location at a crossroads for farmers bringing their goods into Boston. In 1816, businessman William Averill purchased land and built a new dam at this crossroads; he also started construction on Revere Beach and built a resort hotel called The Hotel for Health and Pleasure. This area eventually became known as Revere Beach.

In 1884, the railroad came to Revere Beach, spurring growth in the area and making it more accessible to tourists from Boston and beyond. Two years later, in 1886, Henry Ford built an assembly plant in his driveway; it produced cars until 1913 when it was sold to General Motors Corporation who continued production until 1942 when they moved operations
