Brighton is a city in Livingston County, Michigan. It is part of the Greater Detroit Area. The population was 3,355 at the 2010 census.

In 1818, William Hall purchased land near Brighton to build his farm. In 1822, he built a sawmill. In 1839, John Smith built a gristmill on the site of what is now the Brighton Mill Pond. This mill was destroyed by fire in 1855 and replaced by another one built by John Smith’s son-in-law, Martin Vollrath. This mill stood until it burned in 1913. The village of Brighton was incorporated from territory that was previously part of Milford Township on June 6, 1916; it adopted its current name on December 12th of that same year after Charles E. Bright sold land for its incorporation (the town had been named Milford Village prior to this).
