Fairfield is a city in Fairfield County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Area.
The village of Fairfield was founded by David Tod in 1798. It was named after Fairfield County, Connecticut. The village has a long history with many historic buildings still standing today.
The first settlers were primarily Presbyterian and Congregationalists from New England who migrated southward after the Revolutionary War ended in 1783. They built their churches and schools on land donated by Tod along his transportation corridor through the area that became known as Tod’s Road (aka “Old Route 22”). The first church built in 1803 was called “Fairfield Chapel”. Cheap Car Rentals Hilliard
In 1806 an academy was built near the college farm for boys which later became known as “Old Tod.” The building provided education for children from both the surrounding farms and nearby villages such as Hamilton Township until it closed in 1907 due to lack of funding from local taxes (which had been diverted towards maintaining local infrastructure such as roads).
