Westerville is a city in Ohio, United States. It is located about 20 miles north of Columbus and has a population of approximately 43,000 residents. Westerville is a college town and home to Otterbein University, which was founded in 1847; it was ranked by Money magazine as one of the top colleges in the nation for business majors in 2015.

Westerville was named after David Westervelt, who settled on the banks of Olentangy River in 1816. The town originally served as a stopover point for settlers moving westward along the National Road (now U.S. Route 40). In 1838, Westerville became the county seat of Fairfield County; this designation changed when Lancaster became the county seat in 1874.

During World War II, thousands of German prisoners-of-war were housed at Camp Sherman near Westerville; they worked on farms and other local industries during their stay here. In 1956, a branch campus of The Ohio State University opened up in Westerville; this campus was later expanded to become Ohio State’s first suburban campus in 1974.
