Hendersonville is a city in Sumner County, Tennessee. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. Hendersonville is included in the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the six-county Nashville-Davidson–Murfreesboro–Franklin, TN Combined Statistical Area.
Hendersonville was founded in 1805 by John W. McNairy and his brother-in-law, Robert Smith, who moved from Kentucky to Tennessee after their state had become part of the Union. McNairy and Smith built a log cabin on land that McNairy had purchased for $1 per acre. In 1814, McNairy sold the land to William Davis and moved back to Kentucky; Davis built his own cabin alongside McNairy’s old one. Cheap Car Rentals Knoxville
Davis’ son built the first house in Hendersonville proper in 1818; it still stands today as part of the McNairy House Hotel. Around this time (1820s or 1830s), Hendersonville began to be referred to as “Henderson’s Town.” In 1827, David Tinsley established a post office there with that name; he spelled it “Hendersons Town” instead of “Henderson’s Town,” perhaps because he wanted his name associated with it.
