Pasco is a city in the U.S. state of Washington and the county seat of Franklin County. It is located east of the confluence of the Yakima River and Wenatchee River. The city’s population was 60,566 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Tri-Cities region along with the nearby cities of Richland and Kennewick.
Pasco was founded as a stage stop by Asahel Curtis in 1882. It was named after David Pasco, who was credited with recommending the site for the community while serving as a guide for early settlers heading to Yakima from Ellensburg on their way to Puget Sound. In its first few years, Pasco was home to many miners working at local gold mines. The town experienced rapid growth after 1890 due to the construction of several railroad lines through it, which made it easier for miners to transport their goods out of town.
In recent years, Pasco has seen new growth as an edge city due to its proximity to Interstate 82, which links the Tri-Cities region with Portland and Seattle, Oregon.
