Waukesha is a city in Wisconsin, United States. It is located approximately 20 miles west of Milwaukee in an area known as the “Milwaukee Metropolitan Area”. The population was 70,748 at the 2010 census.

Waukesha was named after the nearby lake and county. Native Americans did not live in this area, but visited it to hunt and fish. In 1834, a group of settlers from New York came to the area and established Waukesha County. They built the first courthouse on what is now the corner of Main Street and Milwaukee Street. The city of Waukesha was founded in 1846 when Wisconsin became a state. The city grew slowly at first; however, by 1870 it had grown to over 1,000 people. In 1871 it became a village with a population of around 3,000 people by 1900 there were 11 different railroads that ran through Waukesha County. By 1910 there were 15 railroads operating in Waukesha County alone!
